Now... In theory, the sooner you go, the sooner you get back. Or...because it was Saturday...the earlier you go, the less @ssholes are out and about to get in your way so you can get back home without the major part of the day shot. Sounds brutal huh? Well friends, the brutal truth is that these days I am COMPLETELY done by about 2 pm on a good day and shopping days are rarely anything but good. I'm usually wiped by 11 on shopping days. Not to mention don't even try to get a handicapped spot after 10 a.m. (usually 30 minutes before I can't walk without using a shopping cart as a walker). I might not absolutely "need" the spot going in: ie: I can walk without assistance (thank you trusty shopping cart for making me look semi-normal) but it's rough. I barely make it out sometimes, that's why so few trips to the store. It is pretty exhausting.
I was wiped by 9:45 this time. Got coffee (expresso, quad shot, a biggun') and rallied for the drive home around an hour later. Good thing my son was driving the entire time. I took a nap on the way home, about 10 minutes away from home. Woke up stiff & shaky. Then we had to unload, at least the frozen/refrigerated items. The blazer was pretty much full but we usually take a break before we unload the dry/canned goods and this time was no exception. I'm pretty wiped but I'm also pretty jazzed that I got my baking supplies. Maybe Sunday (or Monday) I'll be up and around enough to consider doing some baking :)
Shopping was kind of weird. Some things were really hard to find. Like pure Vanilla extract. We went up and down the baking aisle a couple of times---ok, more than SEVERAL times---looking for it. Got a really good deal on it though, $3.09 with the 50 % off AND a coupon for the 2 oz size and it should last me until my own batch is ready :) (project post coming). And Gluten free to boot! So happy at such little things, lol.
I was really surprised how hard we had to look for the molasses though, and, it being Fred Meyer, a huge chain store, I was really surprised there were only two kinds of molasses. The kind my Grandma & Mom always bought:
And the kind I always wanted them to buy because I loooooooooved Brer Rabbit:
Tonight we're "junk food junkies" though and having banquet chicken and french fries. I've been wanting banquet chicken for MONTHS. I haven't bought any and every big shopping day I think about buying some and think of the carbs and the price and pass. So this time, I broke down and just said eFF it I don't care; I'm not cooking today! It's easy and the kids are making it (probably my son is making it, lol). So, I made homemade tartar sauce (yeah, yeah, I sat at the table with the cutting board to cut the onions etc) and put in the fridge to "set" for dinner.
Going to go rest and when I feel better watch the last of season 4 of Breaking Bad and have some "chill" time. Then dinner etc. And when I am not so tired to finally get to eat it, I'm NOT going to think sugar, carbs---NOTHING-- I'm just gonna say YUM!
