Question of the Week #42
I had hoped to be writing this post from my "command center" in my studio/shop but alas a small plumbing emergency hijacked my time allotted for setting up my command center and moving my desktop computer & modem/router/thingy that controls the WiFi. That project has been moved to "sometime later", hopefully this week ;)
The small plumbing emergency was easily resolved but then I had to clean the mess in the utility room. I had a drip leak develop behind the washer and the drip wasn't realized until after it had filled my old-growth cedar sea chest and a plastic tub full of paperbacks in the donation boxes we store under the table in there and only then it leaked on to the floor and out from under the table and then was noticed and OMG--- MESSY! The books were a total loss but the chest is drying out quite nicely so hopefully it is salvageable. In the mean time we utilized our trick of spreading clean (of course, lol) kitty litter on the floor to draw the damp out after we moved the table, washer and dryer. The store was out of the stuff we normally use and we went with a different (in store brand--non clay) mix we'd never used before and my utility room currently smells like a pleasant mix of baking soda, lavender and mint. I went back and picked up 40 lbs to "salt" the earth in the basement before we finish putting in the rest of the floor down there. I'd been wondering what to do, if there was anything I could put down to combat the somewhat "sour" smell down there. I smell it but no one else does and thus it is "my problem". Well, problem solved :)
Serendipity :)
This isn't the first time we've used kitty litter in the non-traditional way, we have used it to clean up spills in our garage & shop over the years. We've also used the clay type to "seal" our raised garden beds before as well. After we had built the bed frames and put cardboard down we spread some clay based organic kitty litter down and then "watered it" and put in our garden soil. The litter formed a seal and not only blocked weeds from coming up, it keeps the dirt inside the raised bed and it doesn't release chemicals into the garden soil like plastic would.
So the question of the week (after all you've read about my "out of the box" uses for cat litter, lol) is there anything NO...let me re-phrase that because we all use things for other than their intended purpose at times. OK... what is your favorite use of something for another purpose than what it is initially intended for around the home or for your crafting and jewelry making etc?
OK...Looking forward to hearing your answers!

Happy Monday to all <3
