busy busy update on the fly

just got an ugly shock. People showed up today and told us our landlords sold the house (yes, the one we live in). The bank wants us to stay on until spring and then they'll put the house on the market...so please make sure to send the rent to this new address oh and by the way, what is your last name and did you have a handshake or rental contract with the former owners? .... I call the landlord...they are going through bankruptcy. Surreal as all this is, it's real. Merry Christmas surprise! REALLY??? I know they are going through a bunch o stuff obviously but a bit of a heads up (like a week even) would have been nice. And frankly, I think the bank wants us out the minute the paperwork goes through...which will be in about 90 days or so...hmmm...spring? Maybe sooner...going and getting a storage unit ASAP and trying to roll with the punches but OH BOY YUK!!!***

still trying to wrap my brain around it. We've got at least 2 months, maybe 3 but it might get ugly. There is also the matter of my first, last and deposit to work out with the new owners...they will give me that last month back either in rent or cash so that's one less worry, whether they realize it or not.

Son's work season for Hiawatha (evergreens) wraps up soon (today or tomorrow) and we've got a few places to go start looking so that's good. Son's work season for fish clipping starts in Feb so instead of picking up random day jobs from the temp place he works for until then we'll go ahead and use the time to find a place and pack. He thinks he can squeeze some random days in here or there for extra $$ once we've got the stuff like a storage unit and place to move to settled.

*** I was told we can get a vacate notice at any time so we've gotten a storage unit and will be packing it with everything but the essentials that we can take in two truckloads or so if/when we are served. The bank is still waiting for a copy of our rental agreement with the former landlord but the landlord has told them he is out of the area and they will not be able to get that to the bank until sometime after the new year. The rental agreement is non specific on time length so they could interpret it as month to month which means they will serve notice some time after January. So, with that reasoning...we're good til Feb 1st. It will be tight on time for us but better than nothing. Now just to find a place to live. So weird.
