Surfing Sunday January 13th...

Here it is again, Surfing Sunday. How'd it happen so quick? It's been a busy busy week is all I can guess. I went a lot of places and I slept a lot in between ;)

Here is what I woke up to this morning:

How nice is that? Well, that was dawn this morning and I'm still smiling over how beautiful it was. Sigh...beautiful and cold, cold, COLD! But, I am cozy and warm and get to enjoy this great view so I am good to go!

Second cup of coffee and son is off to oldest uncle's to watch hawks playoff game (GO HAWKS!) and later, change oil in the escort. "Man Day". Which means I'll get something done around here while he's gone (yay me). I love him but sometimes cuz mom is asking, it's gonna get put on the back burner. Just the way it is sometimes. OK...moving on...

Yesterday I went over to the 5 (oldest brother's place) with my mom and helped out with the black smith's visit (Shadow got her shoes off and nice trim and Rosie got a trim too) and brushed the girls out. Then we went home and I warmed up because it's pretty damn cold behind that ridge at 8:30 in the morning. Shadow's halter still had frost on it at 9:30! COLD! Around noon my mom and I went into Habitat for Humanity to drop off a storm door for donation, stopped off at our local used book store (one last read paperbacks, 4 for a buck--love it!) and then went over to second oldest brother's to visit for a bit. He was home and we got to visit which was really nice :) I don't get to see him very often. We also just planned on visiting but because of what he does and how he is (he is really fun more than a pain even though I don't let him know, lol) he made us go "shopping" in his recent aquisitions area. He does property reclamation, preservation and management which basically means he ends up bringing a lot of stuff home that he won't haul to the dump because it's just wrong to toss it. I mean hand tools, yard tools, random building materials, sometimes antique tools and sometimes just one of a kind weird items. He loaded me up yesterday, lol. I got a nice sturdy broom (way nicer than my crappy ones), an old school rubbermaid hard rubber dustpan (hard to find these days), an antique aerator, a metal tined leaf rake, a mini shovel and a roll of craft (or is kraft?) paper. Nice. Plus I borrowed a book from him I've been wanting to go through---Reader's Digest Back to Basics, oversize, published in 1981. My mom had this book when I was a kid (still has it) and we used to pore over the crafts and wood working sections and read the fence building techniques etc. This book is basically a manual described "How to learn and enjoy traditional American skills". It has recipes for apple jack and directions on how to build several different kinds of looms etc. Back to the land skill, you name it and it's probably in there. I'm loving going through it today ;)

OK, so here I am back (it's the afternoon and I've been sidetracked by unexpected company most of the day). And of course just sitting down to "breakfast" now at 2:59 pm. Bad, yes, but I offer them food, all different kinds and they refuse. I can't just go ahead and eat in front of them...bad form...and also very bad for me :( so, scarfing a burrito and typing one handed for a bit here...

Now, just check out these bad babies:

dang pinterest, lots more places (ALMOST too many...almost...) to fritter away my time...mmmm....fritters.... looking at this one was making me drool a little...

Just thinking of these made me decide to make my own (they're really quick) so I pulled the recipe and posted it over at C4 II so y'all could make it if you felt like it. They are really good and easy and yummm...

Easy Apple Cinnamon Fritters

Well, the sun is starting to go down and I've been sidetracked so many times I haven't even made it to number 3 on my "to do" list. BUT...I had some fun. Didn't get a lot of surfing done and didn't get that many links posted. Eh? Did I get any? LOL. I'm going to call it and finish for now since I've got about 20 minutes of daylight left and I can get 2 maybe 3 more things done on my list. That means 2-3 less things I have to think about tonight when I'm thinking of all the things I didn't get done. For now, I'm off to have another 1 (or two) of those little apple fritters. They are so good (but sticky) and I have to keep washing my hands before I get back on the keyboard.

Later!
