I had a lot of big plans this weekend but due to not feeling well I ended up on the couch watching a lot of tv and internet surfing instead.
I wasn't up to doing any wire or bead work but I had my trusty notebooks and my sketchbook by my side because one of my favorite things to do while stuck on the couch watching tv is looking at the jewelry, art, decor and even the furniture in whatever I'm watching and jot or doodle any notes or ideas that might come up.
I have watched a lot of tv this way and it makes it better for me, more enjoyable. From historical to fantasy to comedy to horror and documentaries inspirations abound (examples: Cloud Atlas, American Horror Story, Game of Thrones, Mad Men, The Great Gatsby, 30 Rock, Life of Pi, Dances With Wolves, The Tudors, Once Upon a Time, National Geographic, Discovery and History Channel documentaries.)
I also peruse many online museum exhibits (oh internet, I love you so) and when I am physically able to I visit museums and art and antique collections and shows in person and take lots and lots of pictures :)
I thought I was a little odd in this hobby but then I came across this article on Rena's blog:
http://jewelrymakingjournal.com/historical-jewelry/
and after reading it and all the accompanying comments I realized I was far from alone in this lovely habit.
My daughter just commented to me that she does this while watching "Warehouse 13" on Netflix...she watches for jewelry inspiration ideas and she said the style inspired by this tv show is steampunk! So, I guess I'll put that on my watch list and check it out soon as I love the steampunk look but need to learn more about it I think ;)
So that leads to this week's question:
Do you draw inspirations from tv, movies, documentaries or museums and yes, even books? Which ones are your favorites?
OK...Looking forward to hearing your answers!
Please remember to submit your suggestions & questions to: spdychevy@gmail.com with Question in the subject line and we'll get your question up here soon!
Happy Monday to all <3
